Meet Dr. Shahidul Islam Akon.
Dr. Md. Shahidul Islam Akon is a fellowship-trained spine surgeon along with nationally and internationally recognized leader in spine surgery, performing the most complex Spine operations in Pediatric and Adult patients. In addition, he performs cervical, dorsal and lumbar spine operations utilizing most 
modern instruments, implants and surgical techniques. Dr. Akon specializes in conditions involving the neck and back, including herniated or degenerated discs, nerve or spinal cord compression, slippage of the spine known as spondylolisthesis, spine trauma/fractures, as well as bone tumors affecting the spine.
What sets Dr. Akon apart from other spine surgeons is his ability to tailor surgeries to each patient’s specific needs. As one of the few spine surgeons in the country that performs every type of spine operation, it gives him a unique perspective to utilize the best possible surgical approach for what each individual patient requires. He holds membership/leadership positions in many of the top spine societies, and charges himself with assisting in the advancement of outcomes and spinal care for his patients. Dr. Akon is passionate about excellent patient outcomes, advancing spinal surgery through research and technology, and progressing spinal surgery education.
Education
Dr. Akon graduated from the top most medical college of Bangladesh, Dhaka Medical College, Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1997. After completed his internship he was working with renowned spine surgeon Dr. M. Idris Ali up to 2009. Dr. Akon completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at National Institute of 
Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) in 2009.
In 2014 he was selected for AO Spine Fellowship at the prestigious Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore, India under Prof. S. Rajasekaran. In 2015 he was selected for APSS Travelling Fellowship and visited three important center in South Korea, Japan and China. He completed his Spine Fellowship with Prof. Abumi of Japan in 2018. Again he was selected for AO Spine regional Fellowship with Gabriel Liu at NUH, Singapore in 2018.
Experience
Dr. Akon served in the Bangladesh Government service for 19 years. During his time Dr. Akon was the Medical Officer then Consultant in various institution. 
Now he is working as an Assistant Professor of Spine Surgery at Dhaka Medical College Hospital for almost 07 years. Along with Government service he practiced as a Consultant Spine Surgeon at Spine Care Center of Al-Manar Hospital.
